How do powder coated rims work?
Powder coating is a process many people use to change the color of wheels, body panels and trim pieces by applying colored powder to the surface. It's a cool way to change the look of a car, but how does it actually work? Thanks to this neat explainer, we can find out.
Unlike conventional paint processes, powder coatings rely on electrical charges to ensure the powder adheres to the surface, rather than using any type of binder. We were able to understand how a specially designed spray gun ionizes the powder as it is applied, allowing it to naturally adhere to the nearest surface.
Once the wheels are coated, bake them at around 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes, and you've got a new color set.
